Amazing evening!Mel C, Milton Keynes, United Kingdom, January 1, 2018 “I booked this tour for my partner who loves his beer. Despite not being a big beer drinker myself, I thoroughly enjoyed the tour, and I would highly recommend booking it to anyone coming to Budapest. We will definitely be rebooking when we next come back!
We met our excellent guide Tamás, along with another couple, at 6pm for our tour. As there was only the 5 of us, it felt more like an evening out with good friends. We visited about 4 different craft beer bars, tasting about 8 different beers and a selection of Hungarian snacks. Tamás explained the history of craft beer in Hungary and was very knowledgeable about the different beers on offer. We were free to choose our own beers in each bar we went to, rather than some tours where you get given a set selection, which meant I could choose beers that I actually liked!
Our tour was scheduled to end at 9pm, but we had so much fun with Tamás and the other couple on our tour, that we stayed out for extra drinks once the tour was officially over. I think we stumbled back to our hotel just before 2am! An excellent evening!”
Perfect intro to craft beers in BudapestOleMBerg, Trondheim, Norway, November 5, 2017 “What a tour! 3 nice bars with top notch craft beer. Our guide Carsten was very knowledgeable and a genuine beer geek. Thank you for an excellent evening!”
A great way to learn about craft beersVicsite, near Chicago, July 1, 2017 “When we got to Budapest we were surprise by the number of spots advertising craft beers. Luckily we went on this tour with "Tommy" (Tamas) who introduced us to both the styles and history of craft beers in Hungary. We were glad to see this wasn't just a typical pub crawl. All the spots we visited were in the same district, which helped orient us to the lively scene (but fortunately we avoided the stag parties). Tamas took the time to learn everyone's preferences and made recommendations at each spot. Koszonom!”
Must do tour for craft beer lovershelen_gemini, Staffordshire, June 30, 2017 “My partner and I booked the tour directly with Budapest Local, who were friendly and answered all our questions, before visiting Budapest in June. Our tour was a great night out, we were taken to a number of craft beer places loved by locals. As tourists we probably wouldn't have found the places ourselves.
Our guide was passionate about craft beer and we had a good night, stopping for some tasty burgers (not included but so good) before our last drink. I definitely recommend this tour!”
Craft Beer Tour with an incredible guide Tamas SzalaiKingPhatErnest, Orlando, Florida, June 28, 2017 “I booked this tour with limited to low expectations. I am a craft beer geek, collector and lover of beer so I wasn't sure if my overall passion for craft beer would be met and how the craft beer scene was in Budapest and in Hungary in general. That concern was immediately gone when I met my host for the evening Tamas. He is equally, if not more, a huge lover of craft beers, a craft beer blogger and the founder of the Mikkeller running club (I'm a member in Singapore) in Budapest (even though Mikkeller doesn't even have a bar there!). Plus he is just an awesome guy that you want to hang out with.
It didn't feel so much a tour as just meeting up with a long lost buddy. The beer bars/bottle shops he picked out were perfect and I was blown away by the craft beer scene in Budapest and what was on tap. From delicious local IPA's to beers from Cigar City in Tampa Florida there was plenty to drink and enjoy. I would highly recommend this tour to anyone interested in beer from novice to connoisseur as you will have an incredible time. ”
Fantastic Beer Tour its a must if you like craft beerNicola R, Norwich, United Kingdom, April 20, 2017 “Found this Craft beer tour before we actually went to Budapest. What a find!. We decided to book it for our first night in Budapest which turned out to be a brilliant idea. The booking was easy and the information as where to meet was spot on. We met Tommy our guide and Andre who was the only other person on the tour with myself and my husband. Tommy was superb in his knowledge of the craft beer scene in Budapest, Budapest itself and the different places to go around Budapest. He was a great guide not only for his knowledge but his English was superb. He was very easy in his manner and it felt like going out with a group of friends.
The beer was fantastic. My husband enjoys strong dark beers and Tommy was more than happy to accommodate with his knowledge to advise my husband which ones to try. I really like my beer but I have to say the beer in Budapest is some of the best beer I have ever tasted. English beer at the moment does just not compare! we have been rather spoilt. As we did this on our first night it made our weekend break all the more enjoyable as we found some fantastic pubs to drink beer which we would not have found on our own and it enabled us to go back to enjoy the craft beer scene over the next few nights we were in Budapest.
I cannot recommend this tour enough its a must if you like beer want to explore non tourist parts of Budapest and generally have a fantastic night out.”
Our Favourite Night in Budapest!RixxyStef, April 18, 2017 “Before our trip to Budapest I had read about their booming craft beer scene and didn't want to miss out on any of it. Luckily I stumbled across Budapest Local and was ecstatic to find a craft beer TOUR! I emailed immediately to book and Hajnalka was kind, professional and quick to reply! Our tour was for a Wednesday night so I wasn't totally surprised that it was just be me and my husband. Having read the reviews beforehand I was confident our tour guide Tommy would be very knowledgeable and personable and he did not disappoint. In fact he exceeded all expectations. His English was great, his knowledge of beer and the country was extensive, and even when our conversations got off topic he would pull us back on track and tell us about the beer we were enjoying. I highly recommend this trip to any beer lover! I'm so happy we did the tour early in our stay as we got familiar with the area and Tommy gave us some awesome recommendations for bars we couldn't fit into the tour.”
Great Friendly TourDavid D, January 31, 2017 “Great evening spent with Tommy. Great knowledge of the craft beer scene in Budapest along with great knowledge of the city as well. Ended up being like a night out with friends which speaks volumes of how comfortable the host is able to make you feel.”
I wouldn't see Budapest without going on this tour!Bryan C, October 21, 2016 “I never would have discovered the great places or beer brands or history had I not taken this tour! It is worth every penny.
I had the chance to spend a few nights in Budapest in September 2016 and quickly fell in love with the city. It has character, charm, and above all -- fantastic craft beer. But craft beer is not widely known in Budapest, making up only 1-2% of the market. This makes it critical to have a person show you where to go and what to look for.
BudapestLocal's tours are all excellent. The "tour" is not really a tour at all -- more like you have a good friend who lives in the city and knows the good places to go, so you get to avoid all of the touristy crap.
Tamas, my tour guide, started us off at an easy-to-find location in District 9. From there we traipsed through some of the popular restaurants in the area to find these ultra-cool beer bars that only someone who lives in the city would really know.
Had I not taken this tour I would have spent my entire trip drinking Dreher and Soproni instead of excellent local crafts like Monyo, Gollum, Horizont, and Balkezes (the highlight of my trip, try the GreyJoy).
I highly recommend going on this tour early in your trip to Budapest. Tamas will give you tons of information on the history and current revival of craft beer in the city, and you will end the trip knowing the best places to go to enjoy it even more. Years from now, when Hungarian brewers have taken their spot amongst some of Europe's best beers, you will be able to say you were there from the beginning.”
Craft Beer Tour - a great way to experience contemporary Budapest!rko78, Helsinki, Finland, July 25, 2016 “I had a chance to join the tour on a warm summer evening and I have to say it was fun, informative, well-designed and most of all - introduced the world of craft beer to a wine-sipper :) Our energetic guide really knew the topic in detail and we had a nice chat over different beer samples in four different locations. Definitely a strong recommendation for beer-lovers, but also for those who wish to see the city from a different angle, learn something new and meet other travellers in a super-relaxed setting.”
20/10 stars for Beer Enthusiastsheyteach17, July 23, 2016 “I can't say enough about how awesome this tour was. We saw a poster at a local craft beer place and the next night we were on the tour!! Our guide, Tomas, was very well versed in all things craft beer and was able to recommend a selection for the variety of tastes in our group at EVERY location. We started at 8pm and went to 4 local pubs to sample their craft beer. We returned to ALL of these bars throughout the rest of our trip. Tomas also recommended a bottle shop and some other bars to check out. It was a small group and we all had a fantastic time. The bottle house Tomas recommended is called "Only Good Beer" and has beers on tap in addition to the HUGE selection. Seriously, for Beer-Lovers, this is the tour you need to check out!!!”
A Must-DO for Beer Lovers!danfilipe60, Toronto, Canada, May 25, 2016 “I can't recommend this craft beer tour enough. The team at Budapest Local were knowledgeable and very fun. On the tour you visit an interesting variety of craft beer bars, each offering a unique decor and environment. And the beer...WOW. So many great choices for beer lovers.”
Fun Craft Beer Tour!! Morgan J, May 5, 2016 “Been living in Budapest for a few months, but my roommate and I had some friends visiting so we looked for something fun and little outside the tourist realm to bring them to and this tour came up on our searches.
Long story short we went and it was sooo fun. Signing up was easy and the staff (shoutout to Hajnalka) was really helpful getting us set up. The tour itself was really awesome too. We had too great guides (whose names I unfortunately forget- maybe Aron and Jason?) and the crafts beer places we went all were unique with different vibes and most importantly great beer. Would definitely recommend to a group of young people looking to try a LOT of beer. So fun and would definitely do again.”
A night in Budapest with the locals!annaoc, Ireland, March 21, 2016 “The tour was a great night spent in Budapest. Our guides were enthusiastic, friendly and knowledgable. We went to unique local bars off the beaten track that we would not have found on our own. We tried lots of local beers and got some history on the beers and on Budapest. After telling our guides of a bad restaurant experience the previous night they even booked us an amazing restaurant for our last night in Budapest which you normally need to reserve well in advance. So kind of them! We highly recommend this tour. We will be recommend to anyone we know travelling to Budapest. It felt like a night out with our friends in Budapest :)”
an unexpected side to BudapestIan E, Birmingham, United Kingdom, March 8, 2016 “You may not be aware that Budapest is home to quite a thriving craft beer scene, and has several rather unique independent bars dedicated to craft beers. This tour opened my eyes to another side of Budapest, one that I found a pleasant surprise. The guides were knowledgeable and very enthusiastic, and obviously well-known in several of the bars! I can thoroughly recommend this tour, both as an introduction to brewing and craft beers, and even more as an introduction to some nightlife in Budapest that I would never otherwise have discovered.”
A great way to discover the secrets of Budapest Grethe O, Oslo, Norway, January 31, 2016 “I highly recommend this local craft beer tour. I enjoyed it very much. Not only for the beer tasting itself, which was great, but also for the knowledge held by the tour guide on both the history of beer and the history of Budapest. It is also a great way to get to know the different parts of Budapest and to get an overview of the nightlife outside the typical tourist sphere. We were taken to some very interesting and different kind of bars, and some of them I would never have found on my own initiative, which would definitely have been a loss. I would recommend doing this tour one of the first days of your stay, because once you have done it, you know where you want to go.”
