Sweet & Coffeehouse Walk

This special tour, led by a food-specialized guide, will give you a great introduction to the Hungarian sweets and the legendary Budapest coffeehouses through several neighborhoods in central Pest. During the tour, you’ll learn about the major role coffeehouses played in the Hungarian literary and artistic life in 20th century Budapest. You’ll also visit coffeehouses and cafés from different eras, which will also give you a great chance to explore the city’s beautiful architecture.

Highlights of This Tour

This tour will be equally about sweets and desserts, so you’ll get to taste plenty of Hungarian specialties, including pancakes and strudel, Jewish-Hungarian sweets, marzipan creations, honey cakes, artisan chocolates as well as some unique sweet wines. Besides the classic favorites, you’ll also get an introduction to the more innovative sweets by talented local chefs.

The Menu

A glass of Tokaji aszú (Hungary’s world-famous sweet wine), lots of coffee (including a syphon coffee), chimney cake (kürtöskalács), dobos torta, pogácsa (savoury scones), at least 4 other desserts (which vary according to season and availability)

BEST part of our Budapest trip!bonviaggio2015, San Francisco, California, January 8, 2018

“Some things are fun to do, some are educational, some are just exciting new experiences in a new place and others are made amazing because of the people who guide you. Our Taste of Hungary Tour was 100% amazing because of our guide, Eszter...not sure how to spell her name. She was fantastic, spoke perfect English, gave us all the insight into Hungarian culture we could want and our tour ended up being just my daughter and I. We LOVED spending time with her. And the food and coffee were fine, but truly the experience was made by Eszter. I would take ANY tour that was guided by her. Totally worth the money and we felt like we got twice the value for her time...just a wonderful, generous day! We just hope Eszter will visit us someday in San Francisco!”

Best Tour of Our HolidaySophie H, November 12, 2017

“This was the most informative tour we have ever been on, our guide Andrea was full of knowledge about coffees, cakes and the history of Budapest, and we learnt a lot about the city's culture on this tour. When we turned up we ended up being the only couple there which was an added bonus, and Andrea then catered the trip to what we preferred. We went to a few different cafes and bakeries trying loads of native cakes, and we actually ended up going back to nearly all the places she took us over the next few days. Would recommend this to anyone who loves coffee/cakes, as it really is a great experience.”

Wonderful tourbiancarose1, December, 2017

“Wonderful tour, wine, coffee and cake what more could you ask for. Guide was very knowledgeable on many counts, history, coffee, different types of cake we sampled. Would recommend this tour as a must.”

We enjoyed the tour immenselyewoolf22, June, 2017

“Andrea met us at a pre-arranged location and we, along with one other family, started our tour with a little Hungarian sweet wine. We then walked to a coffee house where we tried 2 types of coffee and our first cake of the day. We had gelato and multiple cake stops. Honestly, not sure if there were 5 or 6 stops. I do know that Andrea was a font of information about what we were eating as well as the city of Budapest. We enjoyed the tour immensely and would definitely recommend this tour if you are visiting Budapest.”

We tried fantastic cakes and saw beautiful cafes on the tourMary A. S, May, 2016

“Gabriella was a, excellent guide with great knowledge about food and the history of Budapest. We frequently revisited many of the food locations that she took us to. We tried fantastic cakes and saw beautiful cafes on the tour. Her guidance and recommendations were invaluable to us during our two week stay in Budapest. We thoroughly enjoyed her sharing of her love of food and Budapest with us.”

Definitely worth going on the Budapest Sweet and Coffeehouse Walk.Bejay U, March, 2016

“I had a great time!! There are so many coffeehouses in Budapest, more than I realised. I definitely got to sample a wide variety of coffee coffee with honey, which was amazing and different types of sweets. I previously did a Culinary tour as well which was great too and I recommend that as well. My guide was very informative and we walked through some interesting parts of the city.”
