Highlights of This Tour
You’ll start the tour at one of the city’s best markets with fresh produces, bottled jams, juices, preserves and more. It’s also a great spot to sample local cheese and high-quality mangalica and grey cattle meat.
You’ll then continue at some small local eateries for a truly authentic Hungarian lunch with a homey décor. For dessert, you’ll visit a hidden pastry shop, run by the same family for generations, where the pastries taste as beautiful as they look. For coffee, you’ll be taken to a Socialist-style coffee shop that has barely changed over the past several decades.
The Buda side is also where you can find the best thermal baths and the tour will end at one of these special places, where you’ll get to taste some healing water. This is a great tour for those who want to have a truly local experience in Budapest while learning about food, Hungarian culture and history that dates back to the Roman period.
The Menu
This tour includes plenty of food and drinks, so make sure you only have a very light breakfast and you won’t have to make any plans for lunch! On the tour, you’ll get to taste the following delicious local specialties:
Lángos with cabbage and cracklings, cured ham selection, cheese selection, pastry selection, traditional kifőzde lunch (soup, main course, salad or pickles, palacsinta, and a glass of wine). Vegetarian options are also available.
Coffee, thermal healing water, a shot of Zwack Maximilian are also included.
Why I Recommend This Tour
The Hungarian culinary scene is wonderful and it’s very likely that the food will be the highlight of your trip. However, it’s not easy to figure out where to go to taste the best local specialties and recommendations in guidebooks or reviews about places can often be overwhelming.
On this unique Buda Food Walk, you’ll learn all about the great Hungarian foods, the local produces and the best recipes while tasting the most delicious dishes at the best local spots. The tour includes plenty of tastings, so you won’t have to worry about making plans for lunch.
