Although most restaurants, cafés, and bistros are on the Pest side, sometimes it’s worth taking the trip to the other side of the river. But don’t expect the same bustling atmosphere; Buda is primarily a residential area and with the exception of some districts, most of the neighborhoods are a lot more relaxed than those on the other side of the river. But what is great about this contrast between Buda and Pest is that you can enjoy the city life but in less than 15 minutes you can find a peaceful environment with plenty of greenery and with definitely less tourists. Villa Bagatelle on the Buda side is an excellent choice if you want to enjoy good food and great coffee (Daniel Moser) in a more relaxed setting.
Villa Bagatelle is a very popular place among locals of the 12th district. Built in 1929, originally the building served as a pharmacy. On the ground floor, there is an artisan bakery with all sorts of bread, organic products, and sandwiches. You can also enjoy a picnic in the garden, a place that is great for kids, too.
The bistro is on the first floor with breakfast served all day for lazy Saturdays and Sundays as well as with pasta, main courses, and of course cakes, coffee, and tea. They also have brunch menus, which is a three course menu for a set price. The portions are not big at all, but the culinary experience is guaranteed. Prices are in the medium range with HUF 790 for a mélange coffee, HUF 2.490 for a breakfast menu, and HUF 2.890 for a brunch menu.
The terrace is open from spring to fall, and a very nice indoor area with impeccable design. The dominating colors are white and purple and all the details are very well thought over, including the flowers and the pictures on the walls. On the second floor, there is a salon where both business and private events are held and they even organize small weddings, too.

Villa Bagatelle is a very special place both in the summers, when you can enjoy the terrace and the garden, and during winter time, when you sit inside listening to Nat King Cole songs while sipping your hot tea. Since the place is very popular, don’t forget to make a reservation in advance.
