Highlights of This Tour
The Jewish district is a neighbourhood of contradictions: synagogues and dozens of ruin bars; orthodox Jews and hipsters; artists and businessmen; daily routine and crazy nightlife; underground and posh – it is where you can understand the most about Budapest within the shortest amount of time.
On this tour, you’ll get an insight into the vibrant cultural life of the Jewish quarter while visiting local designer shops, galleries and the famous ruin bars and while exploring the most exciting street art and murals in the neighborhood.
Why I Recommend This Tour
This is great tour if you’re interested in exploring the more local side of one of Budapest’s most popular neighborhoods. This area of the city constantly changes, so you definitely need a local guide to show you the most recently opened cafés, bars, galleries, shops and more.

Fascinating glimpse of contemporary Budapest
“The walking tour around the Jewish Quarter was a fantastic way to see this beautiful part of the city and how it has evolved over the years. Attila showed us so many things we would never have seen ourselves or if we had, would not have understood the significance, such as the monument to Carl Lutz, the forgotten Swiss diplomat who saved thousands of Jews, and the deliberate graffiti by spoof political party, The Dog with Two Tales. He told us the stories behind the street art and took us to ruin bars, contemporary design and book shops. Highly recommended for people who want to get under the skin of Budapest; not recommended if you just want to get smashed.”

Great Tour
“We did this the afternoon we arrived and I am so glad we did. What a wonderful and interesting tour. We had already walked past a few things and took real notice of these until Attila gave us the information. It’s not a pub tour, you discover history, knowledge, yes you do go for a drink in the ruin bar and get a tour around. We would not have realised the full extent of the place.
We were also recommended what spa to go to, which restaurants were good, coffee shops, farmers and flea markets. All of course non-tourist places and prices ! It was wonderful only three of us on it, really to see the Jewish quarters it’s a must.”

Amazing tour in small groups with a local
“Attila was amazing, giving us (only 3) real insights about the ruinpubs area from not only an artistic and historical perspective, but also a social and political context. I felt the tour was much more a dialogue rather than just a blunt presentation. Attila made his explanations really interesting and has a broad range of knowledge on every topic! I learnt a lot. I would advise to take this tour at the beginning of your trip, because Attila has excellent recommendations! Thank you.”
