January might not be the most popular month among travelers to visit Budapest, but the city actually has a lot to offer even during the low season.

All the Christmas Markets close during the first week of January and everything quiets down a little, so the city feels a lot less crowded. However, there are lots of great activities in Budapest, including the International Circus Festival, the Mulled Wine Festival, the International Documentary Festival or the Winter Picnic in Etyek with wine and great foods.

The weather can be quite cold in Budapest, but if you dress warm, you can enjoy sightseeing, or you can also sign up for a guided city tour. There are also some great indoor activities, such as wine tastings or a cooking class.

And if you’re in Budapest during winter time, going to the baths is must-do activity. It feels so nice to relax in the hot thermal water!
